there's nothing un-awesome about dna replication

i gotta be real honest for just a second-- molecular biology is severely underappreciated. to substantiate my claim, i'm about to introduce you to what is quite possibly the coolest science animation i've ever seen, courtesy of our good friends at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories (not familiar with them? weird.) watch it. if you think it's cool, you may say so in whatever fashion you wish. if you think it's uncool...well, i think you're unright, and you should leave your "i hate nerds" rhetoric unsaid. censorship- w00t. no, but really, feel free to comment. but be gentle. nerds err on the frail side-- words might actually break our bones.

here's the protocol (which is jargon for "directions") for the brave, the curious, and the brave/curious:

(1) go to http://www.dnai.org/a/index.html
(2) click on "Copying the Code" at the bottom
(3) click on "putting it together" at the top
(4) watch the video, situated conveniently on the left, entitled "Replication"
(5) either marvel in awe, or struggle to stay awake for the minute or so it takes to watch the video (i recommend the first. marveling is the way to go.)

as always, glad to nerd the place up a little.
w00t.

It reminds me of the Jurasic Park animation where they are able to make a dinosaur from the blood of a mosquito.

I'm not sure why the left side has to be replicated backwards in loops. It blows my mind. Even still it looks simpler than the animations from the string theory movie you let us borrow.

Thanks for replicating the nerd gene for all of us to enjoy.

excuse me, Keith, but, lest you forget, it was "DINO DNA" (insert implacable accent) which they extracted from mosquitoes trapped in amber.

I think my mouth stayed open the whole time

yeah dude, that's a pretty sweet animation. We actually watched that same one in class last year.

I watched the video and it looked cool but I kinda zoned out in the middle. So I'm not sure what I saw. Anyways i still think you cool even though you are a total nerd.

Watching this, my inner nerd just busted out a big pennant with a double helix on it and, with face painted in complementary sections of color, started chanting "D-N-A! D-N-A!" Then he spilled his cranberry juice on my inner violent d-bag and got his butt handed to him. It was awesome. This is Joseph Rhea, by the way. Like a creature in Spore, I'm stepping out of the ocean to test my newly-evolved blogging legs. Your inner nerd knows what I'm talking about.
